The Sun
and The Rain The Sun and the Rain is Jeff Lopez’ first recording as a leader. The CD contains eight original Lopez compositions, each marked in their own way by Jeff’s distinct writing style. The music features his acoustic bass backed by an excellent array of first class musicians. Craig Handy, who has performed with Herbie Hancock, and Joel Frahm, another superb musician, alternate sax riffs and solos on different tunes. Each of the horn players perform on tenor as well as soprano saxes. Uri Caine, who is also a Verve recording artist, plays tasteful and dynamic piano throughout the album. Check out his spine tingling solo on Prospects! The guitar chores are handled by Tom Guarna, who provides great accompaniment and solos. He has played with the Brecker Brothers, among a long list of others, on various sessions and gigs. The drummer on The Sun and the Rain is Rodney Holmes, who manages to keep time and light a fire under the music simultaneously. Rodney has an incredible jazz resume, including time with Joe Zawinal and Wayne Shorter. In addition, Rodney was the drummer on Carlos Santana’s recent monster (and Grammy award winning) hit single. To hear Jeff Lopez’ bass playing in this setting of his original music is a joy. Jeff’s impeccable sense of rhythm, fine intonation, and his other intangible, unique qualities that form his wonderful musicianship, have made The Sun and the Rain a must listening experience for any serious fan of jazz. We think that you’ll be enthralled. | Audio Selections --- Purchase CD from CD Baby (800) BUY-MY-CD or order securely over the internet and hear Real Audio samples
